Thank you
Thank you doesn’t seem a big enough word to encompass all that you want to get across sometimes. It’s a simple phrase but one that is forgotten too often. In the rush of days and weeks and months, it’s all too easy to forget.
I remember as a little child receiving something and being told by my mum that I should always say thank you. I was told that thank you isn't hard to say, but can mean a lot to the person that receives it. I know that if I am ever thanked it stops me in my tracks, is not expected and always appreciated.
So, as we bring our financial year to a close, I want to say thank you to each and every colleague.
Thank you for bringing your best self to work every day, even though some days felt really tough. Thank you for learning from each other how to thrive in difficult times. For keeping your heads up, even when others around us were losing theirs.
The Canadian writer Robin Sharma said that “rough seas make greater sailors and so tough times build great people”. Having worked through a number of memorably hard markets throughout my career, I can echo the truth in this.
The lessons we learn about ourselves, and from those around us, when we are battling difficulties stands us in good stead for when better times return. Andrew Neal, our Chief People Officer, and I were talking about this only this week; sharing stories of even tougher times and what each of us learnt about ourselves in those moments.
As we head towards a new financial year, we remain ambitious, of course, and confident that more favourable market conditions will come back, but for now they are what they are and our focus on our clients, candidates and contractors has never been more important.
Every Pound, Dollar, Euro and other currencies we operate in around our 16 countries that we can increase fees by, every candidate we place, every contractor that we extend, every project we sign, every new client that starts work with us gets us closer to ever better times.
We cannot control the markets but we always get to control what each of us does and I know we work with the best of the best in colleagues around the world.
