You blink and another year has passed, it really shouldn’t surprise me how quickly each year at Harvey Nash has gone, especially after 23 years in the business! But let me assure you it still does.

When I reflect on the last 12 months, who could have thought that we would still be working remotely from each other or how busy the market has been. For the first time in my recruitment career capacity issues were as real problem for us in the first half of the year, rather than something we actually wanted. Thankfully capacity has become less of an issue later on in the year but I still think there have been some heroes in all parts of the Group that have gone the extra mile and beyond to help deliver to our customers – so massive Thank you to you all! In fact another surprise this year was that we all became better at saying no to clients who refused to embrace remote and/or flexible working, can you imagine us doing that that pre-pandemic.

Although we have been apart, what has been lovely to see is the smiles and happiness when we see each in person or on call on Teams. I have noticed that we really do appreciate each other now more than ever!

At Harvey Nash we are fortunate to have two year ends, one at the end of the calendar year and the financial year end. I have often wished that our financial year end would coincide with the end of December, however there are some benefits, as we are able to hit the reset button twice and typically we have a bumper month on perm in January. I also use this time of year to reflect on what I want to stop doing in the coming year and what I want do more of such as, read more, speak to more clients or be more active on social media.

My final reflection is one of thanks, firstly that we are blessed to be working in an industry that has thrived during the pandemic as we know other sectors have not been as fortunate. I know that I am enormously thankful for the health and happiness of teams and our loved ones.

Wherever you might be in Group, I wish you all a Happy New Year.

Andy
