Connections – Are we really Six Degrees of separation from one another?

This week I have been struck by how closely connected we are to each other around the world. It used to be said that 6 degrees of separation was all that stood between us and anyone on the planet. Now, with amazing advances in technology and with the help of social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn, it has been said that number has come down to 3.

I am continually amazed by the possibilities of having so many close connections with friends, family and colleagues. One colleague I spoke with this week mentioned how grateful they were that another person in the Group was able to introduce them to a new, important contact. They had been trying for months, but through working together and the power of the ‘network’ they achieved something amazing.

Inside our businesses I have seen those moments come to life as colleagues find the person who can really help with a piece of work, a challenge they have or interest in a service that could really thrive in another country. The more we are aware of what we do, how we do it and who is the expert, the faster we will grow and develop our capability around the world.

In the world of LinkedIn we can see who is connected to who, I am sure we have all reached out to colleagues, friends, family members who have a connection we would value to help open that up. Having the ability to do this inside the business, understanding around the world quickly who to connect with has to be an imperative for us all.

The better we become at connecting, the faster we will grow and the more interesting our work becomes. How are you finding connecting across the businesses? Certainly implementing Bullhorn in the Technology Recruitment business will help us hugely, Microsoft Teams helps to a degree. We need to work together to find even more effective ways. I would love to hear your ideas.

So, we are heading towards the end of the working week. Thank you for all that you have done to make our businesses even better this year. I wish you a restful weekend. Keep safe and well.
