We Make A Difference

We are all so busy in our jobs, it’s sometimes easy to forget the wider impact we make.

That’s why I was very pleased to see a report that the marketing team shared in the UK about the enormous value our industry adds. This particular report looked at the recruitment sector, but it could just as easily have applied to leadership consulting or IT solutions anywhere in the world.

Did you know, for instance, that the recruitment sector in the UK is bigger than the accounting or legal sectors? Or that through the use of expert agencies like ours the UK’s productivity was improved by £7bn through access to better, more diverse, talent?

Throughout the pandemic Harvey Nash Group has played a very important role in helping our clients and candidates get through what has a most difficult year. I’ve seen so many examples of how we have gone that extra mile to support and help. Whether that’s been offering CV and careers advice to candidates, or working with clients in different ways to support their needs.

We often talk about ‘creating the moments that matter’, and these are all examples of just that.

Now, as we approach Spring in many parts of the world, vaccines are being rolled out, and governments and businesses start to power up, there is a sense of optimism in the air.

There is also a sense that our sector is changing, in an exciting way.  Entirely new ways of working are evolving, less centred on location, and more centred on choosing the right person for the right job. This is a fantastic time to be a talent advisory and talent acquisition business.

When I look at the many incredible brands we work with around the world and the roles we have placed we are making a difference for the good in business and society as a whole. We place people who are saving lives through their work, helping struggling families access support, building new digital businesses, being part of the many innovative start-ups.

The demand for STEM skills is on the rise and today we know that many jobs in the tech world remain unfilled. Which also gives us the opportunity to help close these skills gaps through our Junior classes in Belgium and the Crimson Academy in the UK where we train and develop fresh new talent and provide on-the-job experience.

I see this developing at a faster pace and with us offering these services in many more geographies over the next few years. The digitisation of society and businesses can only make the skills demand rise exponentially.

It’s a wonderful thing to know that we make a difference in the work we do. To know that because of what we do people have better lives, that businesses thrive and create yet more jobs, that we are helping create a more diverse, more inclusive tech sector.

We have every reason to be proud to be talent experts. Let’s stand just a little taller, sit up a little straighter when we think about the work we do, the difference we make.

As we head towards the end of the week, take time to rest and recuperate. Keep safe and well.
