CEO Guest Blog – Ronny Lommelen – Fear, Frustrations, Faith and Fun

2020 has been an unprecedented year. In early March we realised that the world was changing and not for the good.

At first, the COVID pandemic was instigating Fear in all of us. How serious was this? Did we have to worry about our "normal way of life" or even worse, about our own lives and the lives of people dear to us?

What about our jobs? Would Harvey Nash Group survive this crisis and would we as individuals?

HOME WORKING became quickly the "new normal" and the Fear that technology would not support this was not correct.

I remember how charming homeworking was in the first couple of months: no more traffic jams or sweaty people next to us in public transport.

I remember Customer calls with a smart shirt and pyjama pants underneath. We even did team gymnastics online.

Unfortunately it has all lasted too long and the first Frustrations started arriving.

It was not easy to keep our contractors employed, not to speak about making new deals. Finding new Customers has been harder than ever before.

The time in which we have been isolated from family, friends and colleagues has taken its toll.

I have spoken with many of us who felt frustrated, even depressed. When were we getting our life back as we used to know it?

2021 starts with Faith. Faith that the vaccines will pose an end to the pandemic.

Faith that we will survive this as human beings, that Harvey Nash Group will continue to prosper as a company and as an employer.

Be positive. Do not focus on what is not achievable but work hard to do better than your competitors because gaining market share is always achievable.

Further, keep in mind that the biggest differences are made in challenging times. Until the pandemic is over, let’s look at a half full glass, rather than a half empty one.

Positivity will help us getting through what is hopefully the very last big mountain that we have ahead of us.

I fight today in the hope that the second half of 2021 will bring Fun to all of us. Fun in the way in which we perform our jobs, but, of course and more importantly, Fun with our family, friends and colleagues.

Happy New Year

Ronny
