Guest Blog – Jason Pyle – Make time to assess wins

Over these past few weeks, I have hit a reflective period, looking back over the year to assess progress and find key lessons to take forward. These periods happen from time to time. Amidst full emersion in the mission, *wham*, the brain yells, “time to stop and assess!”

It took a while to realize that fighting this voice inside my head wasn’t an option. The practice became routine many years ago when the exercise led to key insights for our business. Our team has used assessment periods to formalize our staffing delivery model that we deploy in the U.S. and India.

All results, KPIs, metrics, and financial milestones can and should be analyzed for insights throughout the year. This exercise is a normal course of business, but most of the time a deep dive assessment is only done after a loss. I can only venture a guess that this is because we always expect to win. When we do, we celebrate and get back to tackling the many opportunities to help our customers. It’s more natural to question “why” after a loss.

Analyzing losses is no doubt helpful, but in my experience more learning is gained from assessing successful outcomes, the moments when we hit the target. Taken a step further, reviewing larger datasets of successes makes it easier to highlight common themes. In effect, doing this over and again leads to creation of a success blueprint for a given client, department, and hiring manager.

To me, developing repeatability is particularly critical to volume staffing delivery, along with a fanatical discipline to process adherence of course. Tapping into and creating more consistent wins through blueprinting success helps our clients, contractors, candidates, employees, and thus, the business. Everyone wins.

This topic seems fitting today as Harvey Nash Group concludes the 7th financial month of the year. It is inspiring to hear the many milestones and achievements accomplished by the Group. On this very blog and through internal company updates, countless stories of high achievements and successes abound. Teams are exceeding targets and forecasts, and where that is not happening (yet), we have talented, focused employees making small wins each day. As a result, we outpace industry peers in all service lines (Tech Recruitment, Tech Solutions and Leadership Services).

Point being, the successes are many, providing vast opportunity to dig in, find the lessons, build blueprints, and best practices that will continue to foster more of the same success. Let’s enjoy our many wins, let’s celebrate them loudly, but let’s make the time to assess them completely. It may be the most important work.

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be right there with you evaluating successes come Monday.

Cheers,

Jason
