CEO Blog – light at the end of the tunnel?

Hello everyone

We are beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. The COVID-19 pandemic seems to be under more control in some of the countries we live and work in, for instance Germany and Belgium have begun the first steps to cautiously return to work in our offices there.

Thank you Mark Hayes for posting your video on Yammer sharing the return to work experience from you and your teams in Germany. It was inspiring and uplifting to hear what an easing in lockdown can be like and the regrowth of the business starting to happen. It gives so much hope to those of us who are still more constrained to working from our homes. I know many of us are longing for the day we have the choice once more to work together in the same physical locations.

This is mental health week and it’s a timely reminder that many of us may be finding these times difficult to bear. We have published a lot of helpful wellbeing content on Yammer to help us through these times. However, if anybody finds themselves struggling please do reach out for help from your manager or HR; the Group is here to help. If you feel you need support externally, it’s also worth remembering there are many mental health charities that have created support lines specifically prepared to deal with the challenges of lock down and the Covid-19 crisis.

I thought I would take the opportunity to thank the many of you who have gone above and beyond to help the communities in which we live and work, our neighbours, and charities. This help is in a wide variety of ways and is truly inspiring to hear about.  I mentioned some of what has been done in last week’s blog but would love to hear about what you or your teams have been doing.

This week I heard about one particular member of our business who has gone out on the front line  to help people who have contracted the virus and have been admitted to hospital.

Simon Green in the Alumni UK team has been giving up his weekends to go back to the front line in intensive care medicine at his local hospital in Sheffield. It is no doubt draining, harrowing and also personally rewarding for him.  His manager tells me that in his typical, low key Yorkshire fashion, he has just got on with it and risen to the call from the NHS CEO for former clinical staff to return and he has done this while delivering and winning work. Thank you Simon for bravely taking up the challenge and putting yourself on the front line in helping to tackle this virus. This is a photo of Simon ready to help his patients in the hospital.

It’s been a busy week again in the businesses. New contracts are being won, new projects worked on which will bring innovative ideas to life,  and new opportunities being toiled over to bring new valuing adding services to our clients. We have also been running and attending training sessions to develop our skills and running and attending virtual events, writing blogs and doing interviews about our business.

I presented at our first DBay investors Annual general meeting this week. I have been in a number of these with different investor communities over the years, this is the first I have attended virtually. It was a real privilege to present Harvey Nash Group which was the first time the investors had heard from us as part of their investment portfolio. There were questions from a number of them, all demonstrating a deep interest in what we do. I felt a real sense of pride to tell them how we have navigated the Covid-19 pandemic so far and our plans for the year ahead. It felt like you were all there in the virtual room with me, Team Harvey Nash Group.

This weekend we have a long holiday weekend in a number of countries and I am sure everyone will be looking forward to some rest after all the hard work being put in to the businesses across the world. Take some time to rest and recuperate.

Thank you for all that you are doing and keep safe and well.

Bev
