A Growth Mindset

Some of you may know that I am an executive coach and NLP master practitioner. Now you may be wondering, ‘what has that got to do with anything?’.

I am sharing this because I have a life-long love of learning. In fact, my obsession with learning is such that if I don’t learn at least one new thing every day I start to wonder how I have spent my time. So this love of learning led me some years ago to undertake executive coaching training. I had already become NLP (neuro linguistic programming) qualified and this gave me the platform to apply this to the coaching conversations I would have with clients and colleagues.

The training engrossed me completely and, in my practice as a coach, reminded me of the intense value of listening and having an inquiring mind in every session I led.

Again, you might be wondering, ‘so what?’.  For me, the ‘so what’ in talking about this in today’s blog is that I am strongly committed to us building, within the Harvey Nash Group, a programme of learning and development for everyone. To take us on a journey of learning that closes gaps in our experience (we all have them) and helps us to build new skills for future roles.

Our HR community around the world are collaborating to build us a way forward for these learning experiences and we will all soon start to see these be put in place in the months ahead. We have been gradually rolling out opportunities to learn and grow through our partnership with Uhubs and with Digital Native, as well as a number of additional methods.

We have been sharing opportunities to develop our leadership skills through workshops since the beginning of this year and we will continue to develop and build on all of these approaches.

I believe strongly in the power of challenging ourselves to learn new things and apply these to our work. This comes from an inherent belief in a growth mindset. The belief that we are not born with limitations to develop our skills, that everyone has the ability to grow assuming that they have the motivation to do so and the willingness to put in the work.

I am excited about how we will develop together as colleagues in the Harvey Nash Group and look forward to hearing about the many experiences and stories from everyone who participates.

As the weekend approaches, I wish everyone rest and relaxation and to keep safe and well.
